Where we are - Vejer de la Frontera

This town house is situated in the Casco Antigua in the very heart of the old town of Vejer. It is just two minutes walk from the central Plaza de España, but located in a quiet street just to the east. Unusually for Vejer, you can drive to the front door, and space permitting, even park outside.

With shops, restaurants and bars within easy walking distance it is ideal for all the family. Teenagers can safely socialise while younger members of the family will enjoy ambling down to the square to buy an ice cream from one of the local kiosks while you can enjoy a café con leche or a manzanilla from one of the many cafes.

Drifting around exploring, finding your way through the labyrinth of whitewashed streets, leading you past many hidden doors and historical archways - this will be one of the highlights of your visit.

Vejer de la Frontera is between Cadiz and Gibraltar, some 10k from the coast. Local towns surrounding are Puerto de Santa Maria, Sanlucar, San Fernando, Arcos de la Frontera, Jerez, and Medina Sidonia. Easily accessible airports are Seville, Jerez, Gibraltar and Malaga so you can take your pick of scheduled or budgeted airlines.

Car hire is easy and you should not need to pay much more that £12 per day - and be sure to go for a small car as the streets can be disturbingly narrow to negotiate!

Vejer is an ideal holiday spot, with so many beaches to choose from during the day, around 10 - 15 mins drive, and an abundance of buzzing and interesting restaurants to choose from at night - all within walking distance of the house.

For the more adventurous Andalusia is a fabulous place to explore, and as yet, to the west of Gibraltar, relatively undiscovered by foreign tourists, although the Spanish congregate in the summer on the long stretches of beaches. Outside of July and August you often can have vast stretches of beach to yourselves.

Inland you have cycle tracks and lovely walks in the Natural parks. These are locations of great ecological, scientific and educational value and have ecosystems that have been little altered over the centuries and have an enormous range of geology and climate, from salt flats and dunes to mountain ranges and woods. Wild life in abundance makes it a birdwatchers paradise, with flora and fauna a significant aspect of not only the scenery, but also the culture.
